I often use relaxation methods in my work as an adjunct to talk therapy. Methods include focused breathing, guided reflection/imagery, visualization, and movement. For people who are involved with sports or performing arts, I may observe the person in action and use the information as an avenue for both self-understanding and performance enhancement. This method might be called “field work”. I also use this “field” approach in executive coaching.
Energy psychology is a newer approach I am using. This method has elements of meditation, hypnosis, talk therapy and acupuncture without needles. The method focuses directly on a specific problem or issue. The effects are often immediate and dramatic. The approach gets at more physically experienced dis-ease more effectively than does talk therapy alone. Energy psychology also taps into the physical manifestations and aspects present in all mental and emotional problems. Energy psychology is a truly mindbody approach.
